Purpose statement
Strategic Planning and Goals: DVAA revised its Strategic plan for 2025 - 2029 in 2023, which was subsequently endorsed by the board to align with the Leading Arts Organisation 5-year funding. Strategic goals: To establish DVAA as an incubator for emerging and established artists, fostering engaged artistic practice. To enhance market positioning and raise awareness of Darwin Visual Arts. To ensure organisational effectiveness, sustainability, and governance. Exhibition Program: DVAA curated an annual Exhibition Program, including eight exhibitions, opening nights, and a focus on high-quality experiences for both solo and group shows. The program facilitated member participation through two Member exhibitions and various curated solo and collaborative shows, garnering significant community attendance and boosting sales. Opening nights strategically promoted and raised awareness of exhibiting artists, facilitating exposure to new talent within the artistic community. The program offered debut opportunities for emerging artists and showcased new collections by experienced artists. 2023 concluded with a remarkable response to the 2024 exhibition callout, receiving over 35 proposals. Studio Hire: DVAA provided studio spaces to practising artists, offering clean, secure, and accessible facilities including 24/7 access, kitchen amenities, and storage areas. One studio was initially shared by two artists, later allocated to a single artist who actively engaged with the community through open studios and participation in DVAA events. Online Gallery: DVAA maintained an Online Gallery throughout 2023, however, due to minimal website traffic, no sales, and high operational costs, the initiative was discontinued for 2024. Exit Gallery: The establishment of the Exit Gallery in 2023 by member artists proved successful, providing additional exhibition space and opportunities for artists to showcase and promote their work. Workshops and Classes: DVAA offered a series of workshops and classes, free to both members and the public, expanding outreach with over 30 non-members attending. These workshops, conducted during the ICONIC Exhibition in November, covered diverse artistic mediums including: Cyanotype Printing with Aly De Groot Sculpting and Painting in Virtual Reality with Lukas Bendel (kid friendly) Painting and Mixed Media with Margie Joy Sculpt your Alter Ego with Kaz Hill Costume Design with Shanrah Austin (specifically catering to people with disabilities)
